Gorbeialdea's Cuadrilla

We are located in a privileged setting in Gorbeialdea, in Álava, the Basque province with the best preserved natural heritage in the Basque Autonomous Community.

A rural and natural environment and only 10 minutes from the motorway linking Bilbao and Vitoria-Gasteiz, in an area where the provinces of Bizkaia and Burgos meet.

In addition, Gorbeialdea offers a wide range of attractions, not only natural, but also in terms of heritage, culture and gastronomy.

If you stay in our rural house, we will provide you with detailed information about the areas to visit, the self-guided routes and the best places to eat and enjoy.

Natural environment

Our immediate surroundings are a beautiful rural area surrounded by 3 Special Protection Areas of the Natura 2000 network combining extensive oak and beech forests with mountain pastures and various transition areas.

It is an area rich in birdlife, where many species of birds of prey can already be seen, especially the community of griffon vultures and red kites that arrive from all over Europe during the autumn to spend the winter in our meadows.

From the cottage Ulle Gorri, three bioclimatic zones can be identified within 50 km, making it one of the most biodiverse places in Europe.

Walking tours from Ulle Gorri

From our rural house, you will be able to enjoy nature, the villages and the gastronomy without having to use the car.

We will show you the most beautiful routes that only locals know about, while encouraging their protection to preserve them as we know them.

With your boots on, you’ll be able to explore breathtaking natural sites such as the Salto del Nervión, the Gibijo mountain range and the Delika Canyon -Arrastaria, the Gujuli Waterfall,  The Lamioxin Lagoon, the Altube beech forest, the San Pedro Civil War Trenches, Delika Canyon, as well as Artomaña and the beautiful town of Orduña.

Also, to complete the getaway, there are nearby restaurants within a 40-minute walk, as well as the Artomaña Txakolina Txakoli winery (45-minute walk), an Idiazabal cheese dairy (30-minute walk) and the Baias Tap Room, a craft beer brewery (40 minutes).

Nervión waterfall and Delika Canyon

It is a spectacular spot, located in the Sierra de Gibijo, a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA), bordering the territories of Bizkaia (Orduña) and Burgos (Sierra Salvada).

In this privileged landscape of vertiginous walls, the monument to the Virgen de la Peña in Txarlazo stands out, the imposing canyon formed by the water and in the Nervión waterfall, the highest waterfall on the Iberian Peninsula, which is located only 5 km from the hamlet a route with little slope and suitable for all publics.

Although the Salto del Nervión only carries water during the winter, after heavy rains or thaws, the views along the route are just as spectacular.

A great attraction are the large groups of griffon vultures that can be seen all year round in the canyon and roaming our meadows.

Gorbea Natural Park

The Gorbeia Natural Park, the largest in the Basque Country, is home to an endless number of natural and cultural treasures. Ulle Gorri is located in the foothills of Gorbeia, on the southern slopes of the park.

A network of trails allows hikers to discover the beautiful landscapes of this protected area, to observe its flora and fauna, and also to appreciate the traditions and culture of the human beings who inhabited and still inhabit this territory.

The most typical excursion is the ascent to the famous Gorbea Cross.

Take into account the RECOMMENDATIONS of the N.P. when you visit.
